Worcester, MA – Scot Trudeau Charged in Connection with Violent Sexual Assault
Worcester, MA (May 10, 2022) – Authorities have confirmed that 47-year-old Scot Trudeau has been formally charged with aggravated rape and assault and battery following an incident that occurred in March 2010 on the North End of New Bedford.
Reports from authorities show that a woman was violently attacked by two men who were both wearing hooded sweatshirts. They struck her and dragged her into a secluded area. Trudeau reportedly raped the woman while the second man held her down.
In February 2022, the state of Massachusetts finally ran the test rape kit and the evidence matched Trudeau.
Trudeau engaged in another type of sexual offense, which landed him in jail since the incident occurred. Between Sept 2013 and January 2014, Trudeau thought he was emailing a 13-year-old girl but he was talking to a federal agent. He would describe sexual acts and asked the agent to meet him in New York. He was arrested for attempting to travel to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor in February 2014. He was sentenced to 102 months in prison in 2015.
Trudeau appeared in court on Tuesday, May 10 for this charge. He is currently being held without bail.
Reports provided in 2021 show that more than 6,500 rape kits in the state of Massachusetts remain untested. Some tests date as far back as 1987. A Bristol County District Attorney located several tests in Bristol that were untested and ordered them to be tested for DNA.
At this time, the Trudeau case is underway.
Sexual Abuse and Rape
In the state of Massachusetts, there is a 15-year statute of limitations imposed on various types of sex crimes in criminal court. These include:
- Rape
- Assault with intent to commit rape
- Conspiracy to commit or accessory of rape/assault with intent to commit rape
However, it is important to note that there are certain extensions that exist for this statute of limitations. In addition to facing criminal prosecution for these and other heinous sex crimes, perpetrators can face civil consequences as well.
When victims suffer damages as a result of their attacks, they are able to file sexual abuse injury claims against the person who caused them harm. These cases enabled injured parties to obtain financial compensation to help cover medical expenses, mental health services, and more.
