Reports from the Boston Police indicate that a community alert was issued following two reports of indecent assault and battery. The incidents reportedly took place near East Broadway and Dorchester Street in South Boston back in June 2022.

Reports show that a woman in the South Boston area came forward stating that she was accosted and groped by a man. On Friday, July 8, the woman spotted the man again and notified the police. When the victim spotted Leslie, she immediately pulled out her phone and began recording him, as he walked with another woman who she believed he was inappropriately grabbing.

The victim of the June incident went to the police and brought the video. The police identified the man as Leslie and issued a warrant for his arrest.

Leslie was taken into custody. The incident is under investigation at this time.

It is important to know that there are also legal options for victims to pursue inside the civil courtroom. Depending on the circumstances surrounding your abuse, you may be able to file a personal injury lawsuit against your abuser.

Sexual Abuse Lawsuits

A legal claim filed against a perpetrator can help you recover financial compensation to help cover some of the ill effects that you are forced to endure as a result of your abuse. When bringing a personal injury lawsuit against the abuser, the plaintiff must be able to prove certain elements to the court in order to prevail. This includes demonstrating that:

The claimant was sexually abused by the defendant

The claimant suffered damages as a result of being sexually abused, either physical or emotional

The defendant is the cause of the victim’s injuries, and the cause was either negligent or intentional in nature

In general, if a perpetrator intentionally caused injuries to the victim, they can be held liable for any resulting injuries and damages. There are also circumstances where the employer of the abuser or another party may also assume liability for the attack.

If negligence was a factor leading to your injuries, you must be able to prove that the elements of negligence existed at the time of the attack. This includes demonstrating that the defendant owed you a duty of care and was required to keep you safe. As further proof that the defendant breached the legal duty of care and failed to do so. As a result of the breach, you suffered physical or emotional injuries.

If you or a loved one was sexually abused, it is important that you seek the assistance of a Massachusetts sexual abuse lawyer as soon as possible. Having a knowledgeable attorney by your side can help you better understand your legal rights and the options that are available to you.

Unfortunately, the number of sexual abuse incidents continues to increase every single year. What many people fail to realize is that there are several forms of sexual abuse that take place in our country. One type of sexual abuse is referred to as ritualistic sexual abuse.

This form of sexual abuse is blended with some other form of ritual or spirituality. For example, cult leaders establish themselves as leaders in order to take control of their followers by performing sexual acts.

It is important that people are able to recognize that this is a form of sexual abuse and it is a violation of their bodies. In some cases, ritualistic sexual abusers will encourage or attempt to justify their actions by stating that they are acts of worship. There are even cases where the potential of abuse exists within a power differential. In cases of ritual sexual abuse, abusers will attempt to use their position of authority in their faith community to perpetuate sexually abusive acts.

If you have been subjected to ritualistic sexual abuse, you do not have to deal with the trauma of your experience indefinitely. There are several mental health treatments available, including Accelerated Resolution Therapy and Eye Movement Reprocessing and Desensitization, which can help you heal from the traumatic events you are forced to endure. In some cases, you may have legal options available to help you secure financial compensation to cover the costs of these treatments and various other damages that you have suffered as a result of being abused. Seeking the assistance of a sexual abuse lawyer in Massachusetts can make a big difference when it comes to your chances of getting justice.

In the United States alone, a young child is sexually abused every eight minutes. Although we often hear the stories of strangers who cause harm to young children, it is increasingly common for victims of sexual abuse to know their abusers. There are many cases where children are sexually abused by teachers, parents, relatives, siblings, and other trusted authorities.

Unfortunately, one in three girls and one in seven boys will be a victim of sexual assault before turning the age of 18. The increasing frequency that children are being harmed is quite alarming. If you have been subjected to sexual abuse, or your child has been victimized, you may have legal options available to help you recover in addition to taking criminal action against the perpetrator. Reaching out to a sexual abuse lawyer in Massachusetts can make a big difference when it comes to your chances of moving forward and seeking closure.

Repeat Offender Arrested on Child Pornography Charges

Authorities confirmed that 51-year-old Todd Miozza was charged with possession of Child Pornography after being arrested on June 29, 2022, and following an initial appearance inside a federal courtroom in Boston, Massachusetts.

Charging documents show that law enforcement received information that Miozza had shared an unidentified form of child pornography over the Internet by using a social media platform. Authorities searched Miozza’s home and seized his laptop and iPhone. Upon further investigation, authorities found sexual abuse material, including videos depicting infants.

Records show that Miozza was previously convicted of child pornography in 2002. He was taken into custody pending a July 5, 2022 detention hearing.

A person who is convicted of child pornography faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and up to 20 years in prison. They also face a minimum of five years and up to a lifetime of supervised release and fines up to $250,000.

At this time, investigations surrounding this incident are underway.

Child Pornography is a Growing Problem

In 2019, tech companies estimated more than 45 million images, videos, and other materials of children who are being sexually abused. This amount nearly doubled from the year before. Unfortunately, year after year we see this growing trend continue across the United States and the entire world.

Here in Massachusetts, there are many children who are victimized by predators. Victims of child pornography are not only forced to suffer immediately, but they often face long-term consequences as well. Once images and other materials are uploaded onto the World Wide Web, it is nearly impossible to have them removed fully. As a result, the materials continue to be had they distributed across the globe indefinitely.

Victims of child pornography often struggle to move forward. Many victims deal with mental and emotional consequences. Depending on the type of abuse that was performed on them, they may also face physical consequences as well. It is crucial to be able to take immediate action to help your child and to hold the person responsible to account. It is important that parents are able to recognize when their children are being subjected to this type of abuse.

Symptoms of Sexual Abuse

When children are subjected to sexual abuse, they often exhibit various symptoms that help others identify that they are being targeted. Sexual abuse is defined as any type of sexual activity with a child. This type of abuse can involve direct sexual contact, such as intentional sexual touching, intercourse, or oral-genital contact. It can also involve noncontact sexual abuse of a child, which includes exposing a child to sexual activity or pornography, filming a child in a sexual manner, prostitution of a child, sexual harassment of a child, or even sex trafficking.

Children who have been sexually abused may feel extremely guilty, confused, or ashamed. Children may also be afraid to tell others about their abuse, especially if the abuser is a parent, a close friend, or another relative. For this reason, it is crucial to watch for red flags that may indicate that some type of abuse is occurring. These signs include:

Self-harm or attempts of suicide

Frequent absence from school

Being withdrawn from friends or other activities they want to enjoy

Sudden changes in behaviors, such as aggression, anger, hyperactivity, or even hostility

Changes in school performance

Problems sleeping or having nightmares

Acting rebellious or defiant

Having unusual fears

Depression

Sudden loss of self-control

There are also cases where children exhibit physical signs and symptoms of abuse. In some cases, they will have injuries that do not match the given explanation. You’ll see unexplained injuries, such as broken bones, burns, and bruises. They may have injuries that are not compatible with the child’s developmental ability. Other physical signs and symptoms of sexual abuse can include:

- Blood in the vaginal area

- Signs of STDs, like Chlamydia, HIV, or gonorrhea

- Having blood or tears in the anus

- Marks and/or bruises in the vaginal area or the rectal area

- Sores or warts on the penis or vaginal area

- Painful urination

- Problems with bowel movements/pain

Children may exhibit sexual abuse signs and symptoms and other matters as well. These include engaging in sexual behavior or having knowledge of a sexual activity that is not appropriate for their age. Children who are pregnant, have sexually transmitted diseases, or have unexplained genital or anal pain, bleeding, or injuries. Children may also engage in sexual behaviors with other children thinking that it is appropriate.

Some children may even say that he or she was abused in a sexual manner. These statements should not be taken lightly. Most children are unaware of what sexual activity is, let alone have full details of what takes place. If a child says that they are abused in a sexual manner, it is important that you act quickly to seek medical treatment or an evaluation to determine the extent of the abuse.

Life-Long Trauma that Victims Endure

Victims of sexual abuse are found to experience severe mental and emotional consequences. Studies conducted by professors at the University of New Hampshire found that four trauma-causing factors play a role in the lives of survivors. These include:

Traumatic sexualization: When young children are exposed to inappropriate sexual behaviors and materials while too young, it can have an overwhelming impact on how they react in feel about sex as they grow up. This type of experience will vary from child to child. There are instances where children were rewarded for the abuse with gifts, attention, and other rewards. In these cases, children will correlate sexual acts with rewards. They may use sex as an adult to manipulate situations to get what they want from others. In other cases, particularly those where children were forced to experience some type of violent sexual abuse, they may grow up and associate sexual contact with helplessness and fear.

Betrayal: Children who are abused by parents, family members, and other loved ones will often have difficulties trusting others as they grow up. Children may grow up feeling betrayed, which may skew their ability to form trusting relationships with other people in the future.

Powerlessness: Given the uneven power balance present between children and adults, children are more likely to feel powerless at the hands of their abusers. When coercion and other forms of manipulation are used, children may feel even more helpless and powerless. They may become fearful of their abuser and feel trapped in a situation that they are unable to escape. This feeling of powerlessness can continue to increase indefinitely. The feelings are only made worse in situations where parents and other authority figures refuse to believe and support victims.

Stigmatization: When children are made to believe that they did something shameful or immoral, or when people react negatively to hearing about their experience, the child may be overwhelmed by guilt and blame. As adults, victims of sexual abuse during their childhood may look back and act like they had done something wrong or that they had directly invited the abuser. They may feel that they should have been able to fight back or stop what was happening. Unfortunately, some victims even harbor feelings of guilt about their body’s ability to respond to the abuse.

Children who are sexually abused often go on to have very difficult problems maintaining healthy relationships with others. After being sexually abused as a child, every sexual encounter or relationship can lead to an emotional reaction. Some children experience anxiety, feel triggered, have flashbacks, or experience posttraumatic stress disorder. It can be quite difficult for adult survivors to find joy in their consensual sexual experiences.

Children who are sexually abused can benefit greatly by working with a psychologist or therapist. This type of mental health resource can be extremely beneficial when it comes to learning how to cope with it the past trauma and move forward. Working with a sexual abuse attorney in Massachusetts can help to ensure you are able to recover the financial compensation necessary to cover the costs of these and other treatments that you need as a result of your abuse.

Taking Legal Action Against Your Abuser

In Massachusetts, there are two types of legal action that you can take against the person who caused your abuse. These include either a civil case or a criminal case against the offender.

Criminal sexual abuse or assault cases often require evidence that proves guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. On the other hand, victims who prior to filing civil cases may be entitled to compensation even if there is no absolute certainty that the accused party did commit the crimes. In civil court, it is only necessary to rely on a preponderance of the evidence. This means that the evidence presented indicates that there was at least a 50% chance that the claims made against the defendant are true.

In civil court, victims are able to recover compensation to help alleviate the damages that they face as a result of being abused. These legal claims can help victims secure the compensation that they need for medical expenses, pain and suffering, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, and various other financial burdens that they have been forced to endure as a result of being sexually abused.

Working with a Massachusetts sexual abuse attorney can make a significant difference when it comes to your chances of getting justice. A skilled and fearless legal team by your side will help to ensure that no stone is left unturned and that you are able to get justice and hold the person responsible to account.

Reports provided by authorities show that in November 2020, Nichole Cyr was arrested for child exploitation offenses after material surrounding child sexual abuse, including videos and images, were located on her cell phone. Upon further analysis of Cyr’s phone, authorities discovered conversations that she had with Weddington. The conversations depicted the sexual materials of two children, ages two and seven, being exchanged between the two parties.

As a result of the investigation, authorities seized Weddington’s phone and conducted a search of his residence in February 2021. On Weddington's cell phone, authorities located several screenshots of an apparent video chat that he had with Cyr in which the sexual act's material involving the two-year-old child was displayed.

Weddington was taken into custody and subsequently pled guilty to one count of receipt of child pornography.

On June 28, Weddington was sentenced to 12 years in prison and five years of supervised release.

The remaining defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. At this time, investigations are ongoing.

These images are readily available through nearly every Internet technology. People make use of gaming devices, mobile apps, file-sharing sites, photo-sharing sites, and even social media websites to exchange videos and images of children being sexually abused.

Unfortunately, victims who are subjected to this type of sexual abuse often endure lifelong consequences. Child pornography is a type of child sexual exploitation. Each individual image and video graphically memorializes the abuse that the child was forced to endure. Unfortunately, victims of child pornography not only suffer from the sexual abuse that is inflicted upon them, but they also suffer knowing that their images are being traded and viewed by people across the world. The permanent record of their sexual abuse can result in great humiliation for victims.

When children are subjected to this type of sexual abuse, it is important that they understand that they may have legal options available to help them move forward. Victims should reach out to a sexual abuse lawyer in Boston as soon as possible. Those who have been affected by child pornography and other forms of sexual abuse may have legal options available to secure the financial compensation that they can use to cover the damages they face moving forward.

Reports provided by the US Attorney for Massachusetts’s office indicate that in November 2018, Daigle was identified in online chats exchanging various child pornography files, including videos of herself performing sexual acts on an infant that was in her care.

Further investigations found that Daigle was planning to meet with another person whom she met online so they could perform sexual acts on the child together. Through an online chat exchange, Daigle provided various videos, images, and other documents depicting sexual acts that she performed upon the young infant as she watched them inside of her home.

In November 2018, Daigle was charged with sexually exploiting an infant in her care.

On Friday, Daigle pled guilty to the act. She faces a sentence of between 15 years and up to 30 years in prison, a minimum of five years and up to a lifetime of supervised release, and up to $250,000 in fines.

Daigle will be sentenced on October 24, 2022.

Investigations show that from November 30, 2020, until December 3, 2020, Nieves was in communication on Snapchat with an 11-year-old child who lived in Vermont. During this time, Nieves threatened and extorted the child to send him nude photographs of himself.

While searching Nieves’s residence, Nieves, who is a level 3 registered sex offender, confirmed that the Snapchat account that was used to communicate with the child was his. In August of 2021, Nieves was arrested and charged with one count of receipt of child pornography.

In June 2022, Nieves pleaded guilty to one count of receipt of child pornography. A hearing for sentencing is scheduled for September 21, 2022.

Victims who are subjected to this type of abuse have their images placed on the internet for others to view. Unfortunately, the content can never be fully erased or recovered. Instead, they continue to pass from person to person.

Children who are victims often endure immediate consequences. Many victims suffer from physical injuries and pain, feelings of shame, anger, confusion, and unworthiness. They may also become withdrawn or isolate themselves. Unfortunately, many victims become depressed, anxious, or suffer from posttraumatic stress disorder. Additional impacts include:

Distorted and unhealthy sexuality

Problems establishing and maintaining healthy relationships with others

Engaging in risky behaviors (promiscuity, self-mutilation, substances abuse)

Greater risk of getting ensnared in sexual exploitation

Some of the mental, physical, and emotional impacts on victims can last for their entire life. Dealing with the overwhelming consequences can be challenging. In some cases, victims can reach out to a sexual abuse lawyer in Boston to explore the legal options available to help them move forward.

Unfortunately, being exposed to unwanted sexual contact visually is a form of sexual abuse that happens far too often.

When people are subjected to this type of abuse, it is important that they take action quickly to ensure that it comes to a stop.

What is Visual Sexual Abuse?

Unfortunately, sexual abuse does not have to include any type of physical contact. There are many cases of visual sexual abuse to have a damaging impact on victims. Visual sexual abuse can refer to any of the following:

social media sites

videos

images

performing sexual acts in front of others

bathing or changing clothes in front of others

exposing sexual organs

website links

text messages or emails

posters or signs

facial expressions or gestures

Visual sexual abuse can include any of the following:

the unwanted or uninvited exposure to sexually explicit images

air dropping and sexting

improperly dressing or being nude at home

performing sexual acts while non-consenting parties are present

exhibitionism or flashing

Additionally, exposure to sexually explicit programming is another form of visual sexual abuse. There are many instances where family members, friends, roommates, or significant others expose parties to sexually explicit programming or pornography. This can cause extreme discomfort and trauma. Additionally, there are instances where people engage in the act of masturbation in front of other people. Many victims feel hopeless and helpless being subjected to this type of sexual abuse.

As adults, we must be completely aware of what we are watching in order to avoid harming others. There are many cases of parental nudity in households where children walk into bathrooms or bedrooms at young ages. This can be a traumatic and confusing experience for children.

If you are a victim of visual sexual abuse, it is important that you understand they may have legal options available to help you move forward. It is important that you reach out to a Massachusetts sexual abuse lawyer right away.

Unfortunately, this type of abuse takes place far too often. Whether you are at work, at school, or in any other location, it is important that you are able to enjoy the setting without any issues. It is important that you recognize the type of reviews you’re being subjected to and take action to ensure it does not continue. Should you be subjected to verbal sexual abuse, you must seek legal guidance right away.

Recognizing Verbal Sexual Abuse

Verbal sexual abuse is a type of abuse that includes using spoken or written words to evoke, express, or imply sexual content. This type of abuse is prevalent, and it can be experienced at any location. Many people are subjected to sexual abuse at work, school, and at home.

Verbal sexual abuse is often passed as crude humor even though it does real harm to victims. Many people are fearful of reporting their abusers due to the fear of being retaliated against. Unfortunately, this type of sexual abuse can harm victims.

Some of the most common types of verbal sexual abuse include:

- teasing a person about their physical characteristics

- name-calling

- sexual jokes

- commenting on a person’s physical development

- making unwanted romantic advances

- stocking with phone calls or messaging

- sexting

- solicitation

The fear of negative consequences can push victims into suffering alone in silence. The unfortunate truth is that verbal sexual abuse can become normalized if we do not stand up against these actions. For this reason, it is important that victims take action to ensure they are not subjected to this type of behavior in the future.

It is important to recognize sexual abuse when it occurs and take action immediately to prevent it from continuing. When people laugh at crude jokes, it may result in bad actors continuing to do these inappropriate things.
