Rape Incidents in Massachusetts

In the state of Massachusetts, there is no mandatory minimum sentence for a rape charge. However, a person who rapes a victim even one time can face a life sentence in state prison. If there are any aggravated circumstances surrounding statutory rape, the perpetrator could face a minimum sentence of ten years in prison or up to life.
Although there are multiple criminal consequences for perpetrators of these heinous acts, they do very little to provide peace and closure to victims. When people are charged with rape and other sexual offenses, they can face consequences in both criminal court and civil court. Civil court cases allow injured parties to take legal action against the person who caused them harm in order to hold them to account.
In some instances, injured parties may be able to file a sexual assault personal injury claim against their abuser to seek financial compensation to cover the costs they face moving forward.
