Brookline, MA – Larry Chen Arrested for 18 Counts of Statutory Rape of a Child and Other Offenses
Brookline, MA (April 12, 2022) – Larry Chen, a former teacher at the Health School in Brookline, was arraigned Tuesday on 18 counts each of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, rape of a child with force, and statutory rape of a child.
According to reports, 36-year-old Larry Chen of Newton is accused of sexually assaulting a student on multiple occasions over a period of two years, beginning in 2016, when the girl was only 12-years-old.
Reports show that Chen sexually assaulted the student after getting her alone in his classroom on multiple occasions. In March, a resident came forward, alleging that a victim was sexually assaulted over a two-year period, beginning when she was in 6th grade until the end of her 7th-grade year.
The Brookline School Superintendent Linus Guillory said the district was made aware of the issue on Tuesday and that they are deeply concerned about the allegation and intend to provide their full cooperation throughout the investigation of these charges.
At his arraignment on April 12 in the Brookline District Court, Chen entered a plea of not guilty to the charges.
This matter is currently under investigation.
Institutionalized Sexual Abuse

Sexual abuse against children is becoming more prevalent in American society. Regrettably, the majority of victims know their abusers. There are many instances where people are subjected to sexual abuse or assault and other offenses by people that they know. In fact, more than 93% of juvenile victims knew their abusers. 59% of victims report that the abuser was an acquaintance, while more than 34% of abusers are family members to the victim.
When victims are subjected to this form of abuse, it is important that they understand their rights and options for recourse, especially when these acts are committed within an educational institution. In some instances, victims are able to pursue civil cases against their abusers. These lawsuits can help victims recover compensation for medical expenses, mental health treatment, and more, regardless of whether or not an abuser is convicted in criminal court.
