Boston, MA – Patrick Rose, Sr Sentenced to 13-years for 21 Counts of Child Rape & Sexual Assault
Boston, MA (April 28, 2022) – Former Boston Police Union chief Patrick Rose, Sr, 67, was sentenced to up to 13-years in prison after being found guilty of 21 counts of child rape and sexual assault, according to reports.
Investigations show that allegations surrounding sexual abuse toward Mr. Rose began in the mid-1990s. Records show that an internal police probe that occurred in 1996 found that Rose most likely sexually abused a child. Despite victims coming forward, Rose was able to remain on duty as the president of the Boston Police Patrolman’s Association for 20 more years.
In August 2020, a female relative of Rose, who is now a teenager, came forward and told police that abuse against her occurred on several occasions between the time when she was 5-years-old and when she turned 12. Several other victims also came forward after.
Following this victim coming forward, Rose was arraigned on 33 charges of child rape and sexual assault against children between the ages of 7-years-old and 16-years-old. The allegations against Rose were in reference to rapes and assaults that he committed toward multiple children over a 27-year period.
On Monday, April 25, Rose was sentenced to a period of up to 13-years in prison after he plead guilty to 21 counts of child rape and sexual assault against children.
Several victims came forward and read impact statements at the sentencing.
Child Sexual Abuse
Children who are sexually abused often refrain from coming forward until several years after the acts occur. Many victims are afraid of the consequences of coming forward. Quite often, those who are targeted are threatened by their abuser. Knowing a person in power is being accused can also be incredibly intimidating, especially for young children.
When children are abused, they may be able to file legal claims against the person who caused them harm. In some situations, there are several parties that can be held accountable. For instance, there are situations where the abuse could have been prevented. However, an agency or organization failed to act accordingly.
