Boston, MA – Eric Robert Johnson Indicted for Possession of Child Pornography
Boston, MA (March 31, 2022) – The United States Department of Justice announced that 49-year-old Eric Robert Johnson had been indicted for one count of possession of child pornography.
According to reports, Johnson was previously convicted of aggravated felonious sexual assault on a child under the age of 13 in 1992. Early in 2022, a search was conducted on Johnson’s premises, which resulted in the recovery of a computer and various other electronic devices. Authorities recovered several hard drives from the property, which were found hidden in the ceiling.
After reviewing the devices, it was determined that they allegedly contained videos and images of child pornography, which included children between the ages of 6-years-old and 10-years-old.
Additional documents show that the search also uncovered diapers, a total of three mutilated dolls that had the vaginal region sliced to make a hole, two children’s backpacks with clothing, and a bag of children’s costumes and sex toys.
On February 23, Johnson was arrested and charged with a criminal complaint. He has remained in custody ever since.
With having a previous conviction for a sex offense, Johnson faces a minimum sentence of 10-years with a maximum of 20-years in prison if convicted. He also faces between five years to a lifetime of supervised release and fines up to $250,000.
Repeat Sexual Offenses against Children
According to statistics, nearly 15% of people who are convicted of sexual offenses end up being repeat offenders. The majority of these incidents reoccur within a five-year period following their release.
As the time following their release is extended, the percentage of re-offenses continues to increase. Within 10-years following a conviction, around 20% of offenders are arrested for another sexual offense. At 15-years, this percentage increases to 25%. Overall, nearly 40% of people arrested for sexual offenses have been arrested for a previous offense at some time during their lives.
Regrettably, when sexual predators are not convicted or turned in for their actions, they will continue to offend several victims until one of them comes forward. A significant number of victims are afraid to come forward for fear of repercussion. Many victims are threatened by their abuser, instilling overwhelming fear. As a result, perpetrators continue their patterns of abuse for long periods before being discovered.
